In May 2026, the Ukrainian auto market saw a noticeable decline in demand for new passenger cars. According to data from Ukravtoprom, sales volumes fell both compared to last year and relative to the previous month.

How much did new car sales drop in Ukraine?

As of May 2026, approximately 5,500 new passenger cars were sold in Ukraine. Compared to May 2025, demand fell by 18%. Sales volumes also declined by 11% compared to April 2026.

In total, approximately 27,000 new passenger cars were sold in Ukraine from January through May 2026. This figure exceeds the result for the same period last year by only 0.5%, indicating that the market is effectively stagnant.

Top 10 Most Popular New Car Brands in May 2026

Toyota remained the sales leader among brands, despite a significant 29% drop in sales volume. Only two brands in the top ten showed growth—Skoda (+9%) and Nissan (+18%). The remaining brands recorded declines of varying degrees.

Ranking of the most popular brands according to Ukravtoprom:

1. Toyota — 745 units (−29%);
2. Skoda — 516 units (+9%);
3. Renault — 485 units (−19%);
4. Volkswagen — 380 units (−38%);
5. BMW — 320 units (−1%);
6. BYD — 312 units (−18%);
7. Hyundai — 301 units (−13%);
8. Mazda — 283 units (−5%);
9. Nissan — 238 units (+18%);
10. Audi — 181 units (−28%).

Volkswagen recorded the largest decline among market leaders — down 38% compared to May of last year.
