New Gasoline Designations at Gas Stations in Ukraine

The labeling system will be as follows:

● gasoline group — a circle with the letter E and a number indicating the maximum bioethanol content (for example, E5 — up to 5%, E10 — up to 10%);

● diesel group — a square with the letter B and a number indicating the biodiesel content (B7, B10);

● synthetic diesel fuel — will be marked with XTL.

How do you choose the right gasoline for your car?

Experts advise first checking the label on the inside of the fuel filler door. On most cars manufactured after 2011, manufacturers already list the compatible fuel types there — usually E5 or E10.

Recommendations vary depending on the year of manufacture:

● Cars manufactured after 2011 — are generally compatible with E5 and E10, but it’s best to follow the manufacturer’s specific recommendations;

● 2000–2011 models — are primarily designed for A-95 gasoline, which corresponds to E5;

● cars from the 1990s — often do not tolerate high ethanol content well, so E5 is specifically recommended for them.

Owners of older cars should be especially careful when choosing fuel: ethanol can negatively affect fuel hoses, seals, and other fuel system components, accelerating their wear and tear.

Which diesel fuel is safest for the engine?

For diesel cars, B7 fuel remains the most versatile option. Expert recommendations by model year:

● Cars from the 1990s — use B7;

● Models from 2000–2011 — also prefer B7;

● Vehicles manufactured after 2011 — in many cases, they can run on B10 if the manufacturer permits it.

At the same time, even for modern diesel vehicles, the B7 standard is considered the safest and most common option — you should switch to B10 only if specifically instructed to do so by the manufacturer.

While you’re figuring out the right fuel choice, don’t forget to check other important documents for your car. If your Motor TPL Insurance is about to expire, you can conveniently renew it online through Visit Ukraine, without waiting in lines or wasting time.

What should you do if there’s no information about fuel compatibility?

If there’s no marking on the fuel filler cap, experts recommend consulting the car’s owner’s manual or checking the information on the official website of the manufacturer of that specific model.

Additional advice from experts: use fuel with the minimum required biofuel content and don’t leave it in the tank for long periods — this will help prevent moisture buildup and the degradation of fuel quality over time.

asked questions
Will the familiar A-95 and A-92 gasoline grades disappear after July 1?
No, the gasoline grades themselves will remain—only the additional labeling indicating the biofuel content will change. A-95 will correspond to the E5 or E10 designation, depending on the specific batch of fuel.
