The war in Ukraine has forced millions of people to seek safety abroad. Despite the gradual reduction of support programs in individual states, a number of EU and European countries continue to provide Ukrainian refugees with financial assistance, housing, health insurance, and the right to legal employment.

Let's consider the countries that still provide financial assistance to Ukrainians in 2026, including the conditions for receiving it and possible nuances in this material.

Germany

Germany remains one of the main destinations for Ukrainians - more than 1.2 million of our citizens are here. The country has extended temporary protection until March 4, 2027, and the Bürgergeld system continues to guarantee some of the highest payments in Europe. In 2026, the monthly benefit is:

- Single adults and single parents - €563;

- Partners in a family couple - €509 per person;

- Children under 5 years old - €357;

- Children 6–13 years old – €390;

- Teenagers 14–17 years old – €471.

At the same time, the authorities are tightening the requirements for able-bodied people: refusal to work or take integration courses may lead to a reduction in Bürgergeld payments.

Poland

Poland has accepted almost a million Ukrainian refugees. Temporary protection is valid until March 4, 2027, but the rules for access to social assistance, medical services, etc. will change from 2026.

The rules for stay, residence and social assistance for Ukrainians in Poland after March 5, 2026 are collected in this article.

Who lost the right to free treatment in Poland told us here.

One of the key changes was the termination of automatic payments under the 800+ program. From now on, only professionally active Ukrainians are entitled to payments. That is, those citizens who worked in the month before submitting the application can apply for support. This means that the state expects adults to be involved in the labor market or other forms of legal activity.

Among the advantages for Ukrainians:

- The ability to issue a CUKR residence card;

- The right to work legally for three years;

- The ability to leave the country for up to six months without losing status.

Free accommodation in shelters is guaranteed only until June 30, 2026.

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has extended temporary protection until the end of March 2027. As for financial assistance, there is a system of basic social benefits, which is especially beneficial for families with children and people with disabilities:

- Adults – 4,860 CZK (€199);

- Children – 3,490 CZK (€143);

- Children with disabilities – up to 5,235 CZK (€215);

- Adults with disabilities – up to 7,290 CZK (€299).

After 150 days of stay, benefits for unemployed persons who do not belong to vulnerable categories are reduced.

Slovakia

Slovakia continues to help Ukrainians in 2026, although the conditions have become stricter, in particular, the period of stay in accommodation centers and the period of payments have been reduced to 60 days. Pensioners, young children and single parents remain in priority categories, so they are not affected by the changes.

The amount of monthly benefits in Slovakia for Ukrainians:

- Adults – €80;

- Children under 3 years old – €160;

- Children 3–18 years old – €60.

Employed Ukrainians cannot apply for financial assistance.

Latvia

Latvia has extended state assistance for another year. At the same time, the one-time payment of €740 upon employment has been canceled.

In addition, Ukrainians, like Latvian citizens, must now pay a patient surcharge in the healthcare system.

Among the current forms of support for Ukrainians in Latvia:

- Crisis assistance of up to €377 for adults and up to €264 for children;

- Compensation for housing, food and medicines for vulnerable groups.

Denmark

In Denmark, financial support for Ukrainian refugees in 2026 depends on family status and family composition:

- Single mother with child – up to DKK 13,105 (approximately €1,754) per month;

- Adult without children – around DKK 6,553 (€877) per month;

- Young people under 30 living with their parents – around DKK 2,823 (€378) per month.

Child benefits (børnepenge) are paid separately, which decrease depending on the child’s age: for the youngest children – up to DKK 2,562 (€343), for adolescents 15–17 years old – DKK 532 (€71).

France

In France, the amount of financial support for Ukrainian refugees in 2026 depends on the number of family members and living conditions:

- Basic payment per person – around €6.80 per day;

- A family of two – around €10 per day;

- A family of three – around €14 per day;

- A family of four – around €17 per day;

- A family of five – around €20 per day.

If free accommodation is not provided, an additional payment of around €7 per day is paid to cover living expenses.

On average, one person can receive around €400 per month under standard conditions.

This benefit is paid in the form of ADA (Allocation pour demandeur d’asile) – the funds are paid monthly to a special payment card that can be used to pay for purchases in France, but without the possibility of withdrawing cash.

Ireland

Ireland has extended temporary protection until March 2027. However, for newly arrived Ukrainians, free housing is now provided only for 30 days instead of 90. In addition, you can count on weekly assistance:

- Adults – €38.8;

- Children – €29.8.

Great Britain

The United Kingdom does not offer a classic system of monthly payments, but allows Ukrainians to extend visas, which allows them to legally reside in the country, work without additional permits and use state support according to local programs.

How Ukrainians can move to the United Kingdom in 2026 read here.

Italy

Italy continues to provide financial support to Ukrainian refugees, in particular for newly arrived people, the amount of payments:

- €300 per month – per adult;

- an additional €150 for each minor child.

Payments are provided during the first three months of stay in Italy and can be combined with other types of social assistance depending on the region.

Spain

Spain in 2026 is becoming increasingly attractive for Ukrainians thanks to new migration legislation. The country has not only extended temporary protection until 2027, but is also launching a large-scale reform of the legalization of foreigners.

A new visa for finding work attracts special attention, which opens up additional opportunities for those planning a long-term stay. State financial assistance to Ukrainians was discontinued in September 2023, so housing and support at the initial stage are provided by charitable organizations.

Rules for entry, stay, the procedure for obtaining temporary protection in Spain in 2026 and what assistance Ukrainians can count on can be found in this material.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria has extended temporary protection until March 4, 2027. Ukrainians who have received the status can legally stay in the country, work without additional permits, provide children with education and have the right to emergency medical care.

Regarding payments, they are guaranteed to receive a one-time social assistance of 375 leva (approximately 192 euros) per family.

Romania

Romania has extended temporary protection until March 4, 2027 and is paying Ukrainian refugees financial assistance: 500 lei per person or 1,500 lei per family.

In addition, those who received a residence permit before July 1, 2024 are provided with 3 monthly payments: 750 lei ($173) per person or 2,000 lei ($462) per family.

Netherlands

The Netherlands maintains a targeted support system. All categories of refugees can count on assistance of €62.66 for clothing and €77.16 for personal expenses. As for food, the amount depends on the family size:

- 1 person: €252.18;

- 2 people: €252.18 each;

- 3 people: €214.29 each;

- 4 people: €189.13 each;

Food expenses for children: 2 people – €210.05, 3 people – €178.53, 4 people – €157.61.

Important! Employed Ukrainians living in a shelter must pay utility bills, the amount of which is calculated with an adjustment for income.

Sweden

The basic assistance for Ukrainian refugees in 2026 is provided by the Swedish Migration Agency. If a person does not have their own income and cannot support themselves, the state pays a daily allowance:

- For a single adult - about 71 Swedish kronor per day, that is, about 2,100 - 2,200 kronor per month.

- For couples, the amount per person is slightly less, for children - even lower.

In terms of euros, this looks very modest, and most Ukrainians feel it literally from the first month.

Norway

In Norway, Ukrainians participating in the integration program in 2026 can receive approximately 18,000 to 22,000 Norwegian kronor per month (approximately €1,550 - €1,900 before taxes).

At the same time, such support has several important conditions:

- Payments are accrued only if you actively participate in the program - attending language courses, adaptation classes and preparing for employment;

- These funds are considered official income, so taxes are withheld from them, and the actual amount “on hand” will be less;

- Systematic absences from classes, refusal to participate or passivity may be grounds for reducing or completely terminating payments.

Which country should a Ukrainian choose in 2026?

If the main criterion is maximum financial assistance, Germany remains the undisputed leader. For those looking for a balance between social support and rapid integration into the labor market, Poland, the Czech Republic and Spain look attractive.

However, before moving, it is worth considering not only the amount of payments, but also the availability of housing, employment conditions, the duration of temporary protection and the prospects for long-term legalization.

In 2026, Europe continues to support Ukrainians, but the rules are becoming increasingly selective: the emphasis is shifting from humanitarian assistance to employment and integration.
