Student visa
The complete visa application procedure can be divided into three parts and several stages. Following these rules ensures that you have the highest probability of acceptance.
Apply for a study permit:
- Apply to an Indonesian university: receive an official admission letter and pay any application fees.
- Your university starts the application process: Your institution will start the application on your behalf using the online portal of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
- Send documentation: your university will need several supporting documents to complete the application.
- Submit your application and wait for a decision: the processing time for applications is one to two weeks. The Ministry of Education and Culture will send your approved study permit and visa permit to the Department of Immigration in Ukraine so that you can start the visa application process.
There is no single-entry student visa in Indonesia. Thus, as soon as you have received an acceptance letter from an Indonesian higher education institution, you must: apply for a study permit at the General Directorate of Higher Education in Indonesia.
At this point, you may still be abroad. Therefore, your university in Indonesia should help you with the process of applying for a study permit from the Indonesian Higher Education Directorate.
The documents you need to submit to apply for a study permit include:
- three copies of your passport;
- a copy of the letter of recommendation issued by your university
- a copy of your acceptance letter;

After your study permit is issued, the Directorate General of Higher Education will forward it to the head office of the Department of Immigration in Jakarta so that they can issue your visa.

Time for applying for a student visa to Indonesia
Obtaining an Indonesian student visa is a rather lengthy and complicated process, and it can take up to two months from start to finish.
Therefore, it is advisable to start applying as soon as you receive confirmation of your university place. You cannot travel to Indonesia until you receive your visa, so don't risk your plans by applying too late.
Your family can join you in Indonesia
After obtaining a temporary residence permit (KITAS), you can bring your children and spouse to Indonesia on a dependent visa, also known as a family KITAS.
Your loved ones will need to apply for a dependent visa at the local Indonesian immigration office, so they will first need to obtain a visa to enter the country. After filling out the necessary forms and passing the interview, their single entry visa will be converted to a KITAS.
Work on an Indonesian student visa
Unfortunately, an Indonesian student visa does not allow you to work alongside your studies. It is very important to keep this in mind and have sufficient financial resources to cover your living expenses.
