Modern Czech Republic is a successful symbiosis of a safe and comfortable environment, a stable economy and a rich culture, framed by a developed tourist infrastructure. All of this makes the Czech Republic an affordable and attractive choice for long-term residence for various segments of the population. Let's take a look at the main costs of living in the Czech Republic in the context of prices for housing, food, healthcare, transportation, etc.

Housing rent and utilities in the Czech Republic 2024-2025

Renting an apartment in the Czech Republic, as in most European countries, is one of the largest expenses for migrants and visitors to the Czech Republic. The cost of renting an apartment in the Czech Republic significantly depends on the city and district. For example, renting an apartment in Prague is much higher than in Brno or Ostrava. For example, in the center of the Czech capital, a one-bedroom apartment will cost about 17,000 CZK (680 EUR), while further from the center, the same size apartment can be rented for 11,000-12,000 CZK (450-500 EUR).

Other major cities in the Czech Republic, such as Brno and Pilsen, offer lower housing prices. Thus, the average price of renting an apartment in the Czech Republic outside the capital is 9,000-10,000 CZK (360-400 euros) per month. And in small towns, you can find budget options with rents starting at 8,500 CZK (340 euros).

Features of renting a house in the Czech Republic: When signing a lease agreement, in most cases, you will need to pay a deposit, which is the price of rent for a month or even two months. At the same time, many apartments in the Czech Republic are rented without a separate kitchen (studio kitchen), which is a characteristic feature of the local real estate market. Landlords usually include utilities in the price, but this should be clarified separately.

To find cheap apartments for long-term rent in Prague, many foreigners turn to local agencies or use online platforms. However, it is important to keep in mind that the housing market is in high demand, so signing a lease often requires a deposit, which includes the rent for the first and last month of your stay.

The cost of utilities in the Czech Republic is also added to the rent of 5,000-5,500 CZK (200-220 EUR) per month. This covers the cost of water, electricity, garbage collection, and maintenance of the surrounding area. Often, utility bills are tied to a specific tenant, so if you move, you need to transfer them to a new address.

The monthly cost of home internet in the Czech Republic is on average 520 CZK (21 EUR) in the capital, and slightly lower in other cities. Various providers offer flexible service packages with the option of renting a router.

Interesting! The family budget can be reduced to 7,000-8,000 CZK (280-320 euros) if you prefer to cook at home and buy food in chain supermarkets such as Tesco, Lidl, Billa and Albert, which constantly hold promotions and organize discounts for various product groups.

Transportation and movement in the Czech Republic

Public transport is the most popular and economical way to get around in major cities of the Czech Republic, especially in Prague, where the transport network covers all parts of the city.

A single ticket in Prague costs 30 CZK (1.2 EUR), and a monthly travel card for all types of transport costs 600 CZK (24 EUR). In Brno and other large cities, a travel card will cost a little less.

How much does car maintenance cost in the Czech Republic?

A liter of gasoline in the Czech Republic costs about 1.4-1.6 euros, which is lower than fuel prices in neighboring Germany or Austria. However, to travel on Czech toll highways, you need to purchase a vignette, which costs 58 euros per year. The car is suitable for traveling between cities, but the convenience and development of public transport make it an alternative option for daily travel, while many Czechs and visitors prefer public transport, or even bicycles and electric scooters.

Bottom line: a comfortable amount for living in the Czech Republic 2024-2025

Despite the fact that the Czech Republic is tightening control over refugees and depriving some of them of benefits, Ukrainians continue to choose this European country for a safe and stable life. It is chosen by Ukrainian refugees fleeing Russia's armed aggression, students, workers, and recently the so-called "digital nomads ” - freelancers who have found many advantages for themselves in the Czech Republic.

For a comfortable life in the Czech Republic in 2024-2025, two adults will need approximately 40,000-42,000 CZK (1,600-1,680 EUR) per month. This amount allows you to rent a house, buy food, use public transportation, receive medical services and sometimes enjoy a vacation, because the Czech Republic is primarily a tourist country.
