Citizens of Slovakia can enter Ukraine without a visa. However, there are cases when foreigners need to issue a visa. We share the rules for entering Ukraine from Slovakia and the necessary documents for crossing the border.

Traveling from Slovakia to Ukraine without a visa


With valid identity documents, citizens of Slovakia can come to Ukraine without a visa. According to the entry regime for foreigners, they can stay in the country for 90 days for 180 days.


A foreigner must have:

● A health insurance policy;

● Confirmation of the purpose of the trip – hotel reservations, apartment rental contracts, travel vouchers, tickets to seminars, exhibitions, fairs, invitations from companies, etc.;

● Confirmation of sufficient financial support of $45 per person for each day of stay in Ukraine.


Please note that staying in Ukraine without a visa prohibits employment and study.


When do Slovak citizens need to obtain a visa to Ukraine?


It is necessary to issue a visa for entering Ukraine if:

● The planned period of stay in Ukraine exceeds 90 days;

● The foreigner plans to work or study in the country;

● A foreigner plans to obtain a permanent residence permit in Ukraine.


A foreigner can get one of three types of visa:

● Transit (type "B") for passage through Ukraine to a third country. The permitted period of stay under such a visa does not exceed 5 days.

● Short-term (type "C") for a stay in Ukraine for up to 90 days within 180 days;

● Long-term (type "D") for further processing by the respective authorities of Ukraine of documents giving the right to stay or stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days.

Documents for obtaining a visa to Ukraine


To get a visa, you need to prepare the following documents:

● A passport that is valid for three months from the day of arrival in Ukraine, which contains at least two pages and is issued for a maximum of ten years;

● Visa application form (can be filled out online);

● Color photo card size 35*45 mm;

● A health insurance policy covering costs of at least EUR 30,000;

● A document confirming the availability of sufficient financial support;

● A document confirming the payment of the consular fee.
